About Us

Herman M. Frankel, M.D., Director of The Divorcework™ Center and Adjunct Professor at Pacific University School of Professional Psychology, is a pediatrician and teacher. For the past thirty years he has been learning from children and adults how to help them deal with losses, challenges, and crossroads in their lives. Holder of the nation's highest honor for community health promotion and disease prevention, the US Secretary of Health and Human Services Award of Excellence, he is author of the national award-winning Dealing With Loss: A Guidebook for Helping Your Children During and After Divorce. Doctor Frankel works directly with parents, children, and professionals, and conducts workshops and other educational activities on protecting children from harm during and after divorce.

Doctor Frankel's background includes undergraduate education at Columbia College, medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, medical-surgical internship at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, pediatric residency at The New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center, post-doctoral and faculty experience at Oregon Health Sciences University, pediatric practice and health services research at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program, Adjunct Associate Professorship at Portland State University, classroom teaching at Portland Community College (Cascade Campus), and, for the past 15 years, directorship of Portland Health Institute, Inc.
